LAWNS The lawn usually makes up the largest part of the home garden, so this represents an important design and functional element. This makes it all the more important when sowing a new lawn or renewing an old one to choose the correct seed mix. Alongside the right species composition in a seed mix, the quality of the varieties used is an essential mark of quality for a seed mix. One benchmark for assured quality is the mixture requirements of the RSM mixes, but even these requirements have been exceeded thanks to breeding developments. This is exactly what we want to offer you with our Majestic lawn range. In addition to optimal grass blends, only top varieties are used here, thus providing you with every advantage of breeding progress, such as improved resilience against disease, low algal growth, great durability, sod thickness, fine blades, etc. 4

LANDSCAPE LAWNS Even when grassy areas are only to be used extensively, the selection of the right grass mixture is decisive. Particularly in locations with extreme conditions such as dryness or excessive moisture or on slopes, the success of fast and simultaneously sustainable vegetation will depend on the right mixture. In addition to the tried-andtested RSM mixtures, special mixtures from the DSV seed range are available that provide solutions for locations with special requirements. Mixture ratios in weight percentages Lolium perenne 25 % Poa pratensis 25 % Festuca arundinacea 50 % > 5 cm 30 g/m2 DSV 830 Race course The extremely durable grass mixture has been specially developed for horse-race courses. With a high proportion of tall fescue, it can withstand even heavy wear and tear. In addition to race courses, the DSV 830 is also particularly well-suited to show grounds and horse paddocks. Art. 801622 10 kg sack Mixture ratios in weight percentages Festuca rubra trichophylla 10 % Lolium perenne 30 % Lolium perenne 25 % Poa pratensis 15 % Poa annua 15 % Cynosurus cristatus 3 % Achillea millefolium 2 % > 5 cm 25 g/m2 DSV 530 Gravel turf A very robust, low-growing grass mixture for sustainable greening of gravel parking spaces and entrances. The DSV 530 makes no particular requirements of the location. With appropriate maintenance, it can survive extreme situations (heat, drought) for longer periods. The robustness of the grass is maintained through appropriate fertilising. Art. 801585 10 kg sack Mixture ratios in weight percentages Agrostis capillaris 5 % Festuca rubra trichophylla 20 % Festuca rubra rubra 25 % Festuca trachyphylla 20 % Lolium perenne 10 % Poa pratensis 20 % 5–10 cm 20 g/m2 DSV 820 Roadside vegetation A certain tolerance of gritting salt and pollutants as well as a good tolerance of dryness are the stand-out characteristics of this DSV grass mixture. The minimal location requirements mean that the DSV 820 can be used in a wide range of places. The low-growing species ensure that lines of sight are not obstructed. Maintenance is limited to one or two cuts per year at the most. Art. 801608 10 kg sack SPECIAL VEGETATION Special purposes and extreme location conditions represent a particular challenge for vegetation. The mixtures in this range have been adapted to meet special challenges and thus offer an optimised solution for particular conditions. Dryness, in particular, is a huge problem that is faced by grassy areas in many regions. Thanks to the component of cut-tolerant herbs in them, the new natural lawn mixtures can keep regularly mown areas green during drought for a considerably longer time than the usual utility lawn mixtures. 22

Natural lawns In many locations, the supply of nutrients and, increasingly, of water for regularly mowed lawns is a growing problem. In order to create a visually attractive and usable area even under these difficult, dry conditions, the cut-tolerant herbs yarrow and camomile are added to the grasses. The micro-clover included in the mixture ensures an enrichment of nutrients and thus contributes to a healthy lawn. Especially suitable for locations such as playgrounds, sunbathing lawns, parking spaces. Art. 624238 10 kg sack Mixture ratios in weight percentages Lolium perenne 15 % Lolium perenne 15 % Festuca trachyphylla 17 % Festuca rubra rubra 15 % Festuca rubra commutata 20 % Poa pratensis 10 % Achillea millefolium 2 % Trifolium repens – Micro-clover 5.5 % Camomile 0.5 % 4–5 cm 25 g/m2 Under-sow for dry locations For use in dry locations, sheep’s fescue is used as a very drought-tolerant species. Under-sowing protects the soil from erosion damage. The shading means that the soil doesn’t dry out as quickly and the soil life is protected. In tree nurseries and in orchards and vineyards, the vegetation helps keep traffic and maintenance paths navigable and more resilient. Art. 624214 10 kg sack Mixture ratios in weight percentages Lolium perenne 20 % Festuca rubra rubra 15 % Festuca rubra commutata 20 % Poa pratensis 10 % Poa pratensis 10 % Festuca trachyphylla 25 % > 5 cm 10 g/m2 Under-sow with clover Under-sowing protects the soil from erosion damage. The shading means that the soil doesn’t dry out as quickly and the soil life is protected. In tree nurseries and in orchards and vineyards, the vegetation helps keep traffic and maintenance paths navigable and more resilient. In this mixture, clover ensures a supply of nitrogen. Art. 624207 10 kg sack Mixture ratios in weight percentages Lolium perenne 20 % Festuca rubra rubra 25 % Festuca rubra commutata 20 % Poa pratensis 15 % Poa pratensis 15 % Trifolium repens 5 % > 5 cm 10 g/m2 DSV 900 Embankment vegetation DSV 900 is suitable for the fast, permanent and reliable greening and reinforcement of all lake and river embankments. The high proportion of tall fescue ensures the salt tolerance of the mixture to a certain extent. The creeping tall fescue also guarantees a dense sod and the intensive root penetration of the surface of the embankment. This makes a significant contribution to the stability of the embankment. Art. 801868 10 kg sack Mixture ratios in weight percentages Festuca rubra trichophylla 30 % Festuca rubra rubra 30 % Lolium perenne 30 % Poa pratensis 10 % 5–10 cm 30 g/m2 DSV 870 Slope seed with clover An alternative for the permanent vegetation of earthy slopes. The white clover takes on the role of nitrogen supplier, meaning that the vegetation can for the most part maintain itself. Art. 801806 10 kg sack Mixture ratios in weight percentages Festuca rubra commutata 10 % Festuca rubra trichophylla 20 % Lolium perenne 56 % Poa pratensis 10 % Trifolium repens 4 % > 5 cm 30 g/m2 LAWNS23

Mixture ratios in weight percentages Agrostis capillaris 2%, Festuca rubra commutata 10%, Festuca rubra trichophylla 10%, Festuca trachyphylla 20%, Poa pratensis 15% Further components: Poa compressa 3%, Anthoxanthum odoratum 5%, Achillea millefolium 1.5%, Allium schoenoprasum 2%, Anthemis tinctoria 3%, Campanula rotundifolia 2%, Dianthus carthusianorum 6%, Dianthus deltoides 6%, Hieracium pilosella 1%, Leucanthemum vulgare 2%, Petrorhagia saxifraga 2%, Prunella grandiflora 6%, Thymus pulegioides 1.5%, Thymus serpyllum 2% Roof vegetation ‘Herb Mix’ With its reduced herb component, this mixture offers a cost-effective alternative to RSM 6.1. The combination of drought-tolerant grass species and easy-care herbs provides extensively maintained roof vegetation, reliably and permanently. The herb component ensures a biodiverse development with minimal maintenance. Art. 801912 1 kg packet RSM 6.1 Extensive roof vegetation A low-growing grass/herb mixture for roofs with a vegetation layer of 10-15 cm. No fertiliser is needed. By adding sedum sprouts, the required quantity can be reduced to 3 g/m². Art. 801905 1 kg packet Mixture ratios in weight percentages Agrostis capillaris 2 % Festuca rubra trichophylla 20 % Festuca rubra commutata 8 % Festuca trachyphylla 45 % Lolium perenne 10 % Poa pratensis 10 % Herb mixture 5 % 5 g/m2 5–10 cm 5–7.5 g/m2 ROOF VEGETATION The increase in built-up areas urgently calls for an intensification of roof vegetation. Through the use of roof vegetation mixtures and the Kiepenkerl sedum sprouts, you will create new habitats and beautify monotonous roofs. These mixtures bring a structural and colourful diversification to the roof. The living plants and the vegetation layer act as a heat buffer and, through the evaporation of the reserved water, produce a cooling effect in summer. 24

Kiepenkerl 'Sedum Sprouts' Sedum sprouts are plants for roof gardens and other dry habitats and can be used in vegetation layers of just 5 cm. We generally deliver the sedum sprouts as a mixture. These contain at least five different varieties. However, the delivery of individual varieties is possible on request. Minimum order quantity: 1 kg per variety. Together with RSM 6.1, the mixture can be sown with 25 g/m² . (Availability of the sedum sprouts depends on the weather and growth) Art. 622784 Sowing The best time for sowing is spring or late summer. The ‘Herb Mix’ roof vegetation mixtures RSM 6.1 and DSV 630 can be sown with a little dry sand. The roof surfaces must be kept damp in the germination phase. Mixture selection We make a distinction here between intensive greening and extensive greening. With vegetation layers of around 15 cm and above, grassed areas are possible. Just like with normal lawns on soil, the choice of mixture and the maintenance have to be adjusted according to use. Here, mixtures such as RSM 2.2.1 Utility lawn, dry areas (see page 9), RSM 2.2.2 Utility lawn, extreme dry areas (see page 10) or RSM 7.2.1 Landscape lawn Dry locations (see page 13) would be used. Extensive greening with Kiepenkerl roof vegetation mixtures is possible, depending on the choice of substrate and location, from an overall layer thickness of around 5–10 cm. The diversity of species increases with an increasing vegetation layer. The mixtures RSM 6.1 and Roof vegetation ‘Herb Mix’ stand out with their diversity of dryness-tolerant grass and herb species. Pre-requisites for vegetation The type of use and thus the establishment of the roof vegetation, the choice of construction materials, the vegetation layer and the corresponding seed mix must be adapted to the statistical conditions. Care Due to the lack of soil contact, the care requirements (watering and fertilising) for intensively used areas are substantially greater and maintenance must be more regularly carried out than for a comparable lawn with normal substrate. Extensive areas with grass should be mowed 1-2 times per year and the cuttings removed. Established areas no longer require watering. In terms of nutrient supply, a nutrient deficit is better than an excessive supply. 50 g/m2 LAWNS RASEN 25

BIOTOPE, PASTURE & WILD FIELD MIXTURES The 2010 amendment of the Federal Nature Protection Law (BNatSchG) prescribes that, from 2020, only Regio-seed (seed from regional propagation, see map) may be sown in “open nature”. For this reason, the FLL released the RSM Regio mixtures, which we are able to supply you with for your projects. The Rieger-Hofmann mixtures are also from regional propagation. Since the production of Regio-seed is still at the development stage, supply bottlenecks may occur. Longer delivery times than for conventionally propagated seed can be expected for this reason. 26
