Clover-rich for forest aisles Pioneer-mixture 28 www.nebelung.de Special 'Pioneer-mixture' If you are planning a food plot on previously uncultivated soil or on soil which is impo- verished for some other reason we highly recommend this mixture consisting of undis- cerning, yet highly nutritious plants. Buckwheat, wild rye and black oats are sweet and attractive to wild game and will prosper even on soils with a low pH. Scorpionweed, sweet lupins and mallows are just as popular and will even improve soil quality. Legumino- us plants fixate nitrogen, making it available to following plant generations. From observing the growth and quality of rape and turnips, you will be able to judge the general state of your food plot. After two years, the straw and green plants of this mixture are mulched and worked into the soil, to serve as topsoil for future food plots. Some advice on cultivation Maintenance When managed correctly, this mixture does not require mowing nor mulching. Nutrient supply N = 0-50 Kg/ha P/K/MgO = A > Before planting the food plot, you should measure the pH-level and make sure that there are sufficient amounts of the basic nutrients. The pH-level should not be below 5.0. Basic nutrients may be supplied by adding manure or compost to the future plot. This encoura- ges soil organisms to proliferate and creates a basic top-soil. In some situations, it is possible to work with compound fertiliser 12N/12P/17K/2MgO. 400 kg/ha are administered by hand in two steps, first two weeks after sowing and once more, six weeks after that. There should be several weeks between the application of lime and nitrogen to an area. A good supply of light and water is also vital to the successful implemen- tation of a food plot.
