Kiepenkerl Food plot-Broschure
Sowing This mixture should always be sown on the surface, since some of the smaller herbs may have a hard time developing, when they are placed deep in soil. When the so- wing is mechanized it is therefore important, to set the machinery, in such a way that this is ensured. Manual sowing is also possible when using 'Habitat 1'. After sowing, the plot should be rolled once the plot is dry, to achieve proper setting of the seeds. Throughout the first year , sunflowers, buckwheat, clover, borage, corn marigold and golden marguerite are prominent on the food plot. The multi-year wild plants will become evident by the second year . Flowering will commence in May with red and yellow cam- pions, as well as sainfoin, evening primrose, wild teasel, viper's bugloss, ox-eyed daisy and many others. From the third year onwards, the mixture will develop individually, depending on the conditions found in your area. Often, wild carrot, mugwort, tansy and knapweeds will be prominent. Cover will continually incre- ase. Maintenance Generally speaking, 'Habitat 1' will not require maintenance. When annual weeds threaten to take over however, mulching or mowing may be necessary. Thistles can be fought effectively through mowing or mulching when blooming be- gins. Second year 27
