areas that are being farmed intensively, a loss of cover in the cold months, is extre- mely tough for pheasants, partridges and hare. It is therefore important, not to start sowing too late in the year, to avoid this shock. After September, you will stand the risk of not achieving optimal ground coverage, which can lead to an increa- sed development of undesired weeds the following year. As the second year starts out, the food will already provide sustenance for many game animals. Due to its large percentage of winter rape, WSM 2 will be very attractive to large ruminants in late winter and early spring. Attractive fodder for large game, and vital cover for small game, will usually be available by March. By April, it will provi- de even more cover, which all smaller game animals will use for mating and nesting. As summer comes along, WSM 2 will appear similar to WSM 1 in its second year. As it develops further, the differences between WSM 1 and 2 will become less evident. By the second year, the straw from wild rye, as well as clumps of Cock's- foot and Timothy grass, will provide cover for small game. The further development of this mixture is going to develop to resemb- le a wild meadow until August. Throughout this time, high quality fodder will be availa- ble to large game. Some advice on cultivation Maintenance When managed correctly, WSM 2 will not require maintenance such as mowing or mulching.
